In Math this month, we will begin addition and subtraction. The students will understand addition as putting together and adding to, and understand subtraction as taking apart and taking from. At home, create real life situations in which students would need to add and subtract. For example, when setting the table, you could say, “We need five plates. I have already set two out. How many more do I need?” Our new IB unit is Sharing the Planet. The central idea is that people have a responsibility to share and conserve resources in order to help all living things thrive. We will think, question, and observe environmental issues and take action to solve these problems. Our students will begin to research animals, learning about animal parents and their offspring as well as comparing and contrasting different animal species. In Writing, we will be working on persuasive/opinion writing. Writers will learn to name their opinion, use details to show why they have that opinion, and make an ending for their piece. We will be identifying problems in our classroom, our school, and our community and write to get the word out about these issues. Students will chose how to convey their message (make posters, signs, lists, songs, brochures etc.) I have also attached the new march hw choiceboard
