Math: Subtraction- Using objects strategy Please watch the “Subtraction Using Objects” instructional video. This will be an attachment in your email. Find different objects (paper clips, pennies, Legos, etc.) around the house you can use to solve these problems. Write your answers on a separate sheet of paper or use the drawing tool on seesaw and post. 4-2= 8-1= 6-0= 10-5= 7-7= 9-3= Reading: Please watch the video: “Avid Readers Reflect”. This will be assigned on Seesaw. Then complete the assignment below. Login to RAZ kids and choose a book on your reading level. Think about your Super Powers! Practice being an avid reader. ▪Which Super Powers did you use? ▪Is there a Super Power you used the most? ▪Is there one you used the least? Draw a picture of how you used one of your Super Powers to help you. Then draw a Super Power that you don’t use often, but want to try to use more. Post to Seesaw. Phonics: Login to Seesaw and complete the activity on the word endings –ing, -ang, -ong, and –ung. Then record yourself reading them to your teacher. Writing: Write a third fact page about your topic for your All About Book. Social Studies: Log into Classlink and go into BrainPop Jr. Type in “Needs and Wants” in the search box. Today is Earth Day! Math: Make your own Earth Day subtraction problem and practice the “draw a picture” strategy you did yesterday. Post a video of yourself saying it and solving it on seesaw using the strategy. For example: There were 6 recyclable cups on the counter. I put two in the recycling bin. How many did I have left to recycle? Reading: Find a book about Earth Day on RAZ Kids or Epic Books. Write down 2 things you can do to help the Earth. Phonics: On Seesaw, find the activity Earth Day Syllables. Listen to the story, then sort the Earth Day words by how many syllables they have. Writing: What do you love most about our Earth? Write your opinion and draw a picture to show your thinking. Science: Go on a hunt in your house for things you can recycle. Use tallies to keep track of your data. Go to the activities tab and find the assignment below. Reading: Please watch the video: “Avid Readers Character feelings”. This will be on Seesaw. Then complete the activity below. Readers learn a lot about the character by looking at the pictures. When readers see a character in the picture, they stop and pay attention to the expression on the character’s face. Then they think, “What does this tell me about the character?”. Choose a picture book to read. As you read, pay attention to the characters (the people or animals). Look carefully at the expression on their faces. Make emojis for each character in your story to describe how they are feeling. Post to Seesaw. Phonics: Login to Seesaw and complete the Syllables Review activity. Writing: Write another fact page for your All About book. Health: Sign into SeeSaw using your Classlink login or QR code. Math: **We are beginning Subtraction Subtraction-Drawing a Picture Strategy- The strategy posters are in your email attachment. Please print this file and use for the strategies that will be taught Please watch “Subtraction using pictures” instructional video. This will be on seesaw as part of the assignment and complete the subtraction activity. Reading: Please watch the video: “Avid Readers Just-Right Words” which will be posted on seesaw. Then complete the activity below. When we read a fiction book, we can identify the characters in the book. Choose a picture book. Read the book or have someone read it to you. Then look at each picture and think, “What might the character be thinking or feeling?” ▪ Use a post it note or a piece of paper and draw a picture of the character and the face they are making ▪ Think of a “Just-Right” word to describe how the character is feeling and write it on the sticky note with the character. Phonics: Login to Seesaw and watch the video lesson on Word Endings –ing, -ang, -ong, and –ung. Then record yourself reading the words to your teacher! Writing Today, you will write the first fact page for your all about book. Pick one fact about your topic to write about in a full sentence. Challenge yourself! Try using the words in sentences. Phonics Make your own Magic E wand to create new words! You can use anything you have around the house: paper, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, straws, spoons, etc. To make your wand. Write these words on a piece of paper or note cards and read them with and without the Magic E on the end and see how the vowel sound changes! Go to the activities tab and find the assignment below. Reading: Login to RAZ kids and choose a book to read. As you read, pay attention to the characters (the people or animals), the setting (where the story takes place), and the major events (all the things that happen). Read, or have someone read to you, a picture book. Retell the story. Remember to talk about: ▪ The characters: Who are they? How would you describe them? ▪ The setting: How would you describe it? ▪ The major events: What happened throughout the whole story? Science: Grow a Bean in Bag Experiment: Materials Needed:
First, fold up the paper towel so that it will fit easily inside the plastic baggie. Next, wet the paper towel and place at least two beans inside. Then, put the wet paper towel into the ziploc bag. Finally, observe for 3-5 days On a separate sheet of paper, write your prediction of what you will think will happen or what will happen to the bean over time. Choose 6 flashcards from the attached packet in your email. For those 6 flashcards, practice circling the numbers and the addition key word and practice writing an addition number sentence. Then, using the last page of the packet, choose one of the 6 flashcards you practiced with to solve the addition number sentence using the different strategies. Reading: Informational books have vocabulary words that are related to the topic. One way to figure out the meaning of a word is to look at the pictures on the page. Readers then think, “Does this picture help me figure out this word?” Login to RAZ kids and choose an informational book to read. While you are reading, pay attention to the words that are related to the topic. ▪ Look at the pictures on the page to see if you can figure out what the word might mean. ▪ Think about all the words that you are learning about the topic. ▪ Use the words to tell someone all the new information that you learned about the topic. Writing Did you know scientists can be writers, too? What scientists write, they start by drawing detailed pictures and labeling important parts to teach others. Phonics: Find the phonics activity on Seesaw for Magic E. Watch the video and then have your child read the CVC words. They will add the Magic E and then rewrite the new word. Don’t forget to record them reading the new words :) Writing: We are going to begin a new type of book – All About Books. Go on a search around your house or outside and look for things you know about. Take a picture of two things and post them on Seesaw.
