We read the book "What Does It Mean to Be Kind?" a fabulous book from the book fair! And we discussed what kindness means and ways that we can be kind. And guess what? I caught some kinders in kindness action! These are NOT posed pictures! I found that the students were doing some of the actions listed in the book. We are practicing being a caring classroom community. Check us out

Hey hey hey! We have been busy over here in Mrs. A's class! We have been working on using transitional words (first, next, then, and last) to sequence or How To books! We cannot wait to show you our fall themed How To books after our presentation on Wednesday!
In reading we have been working on our reading strategies or as I like to call them: READING SUPER POWERS! Pointer power, reread power, partner power, picture power, sight word power, and sound power! The students have been activating these powers and using them when reading with me in small groups, by themselves, and with partners! I told them that I was reflecting (p.s. the new cookies for character word is reflective) over the weekend when I saw the new Marvel movie Thor Ragnarok and I noticed that we are like super heroes too when we read, when things look tough or seem difficult, we never give up! We are super readers! We have also been working on classifying and comparing 2D and 3D shapes. We have been comparing shapes based on their orientations using our math language to describe similarities, differences, and parts. Below is a picture of the students realizing that 3D shapes have faces that contain 2D shapes! Here they are sorting the shapes based on if the faces are circular or square (: Goodbye October you were fun! Welcome November!!! Here are the 3D shapes that I know
A sphere, a cylinder, a cube, and a cone, and a pyramid! We are becoming 3 dimensional shape pros, we are able to name the shapes, tell how many faces, edges, and vertices/corners, tell the difference between 3D and 2d shape, and find real world examples of 3d shapes. Next week we will be working on 2 dimensional shapes, especially those tricky -gons (hexagon, octagon, pentagon). |
