How awesome were student led conferences?! I hope you enjoyed listening to and watching your children as much as I did! My heart was so full on Friday looking around the room! Every single child had someone there to share their work and growth with and were so proud when doing so! My teacher heart was bursting. Watching you and your children made me beam!
Our real life lawyer is actually coming in on Monday for our classroom court! Because Friday May 3rd we have stem day! Here is a little sneak peek for both exciting events! On Monday we will have a mock courtroom experience to help us practice our persuasive writing strategies. We will use the OREO method to help us in two cases. Dogs are better vs. cats are better and indoor recess is better vs. outdoor recess is better. OREO stands for opinion, reasons, examples, opinion. This activity will help us to see just how effective it is to restate our opinion multiple times as well as give many reasons and examples to make a strong argument and persuade your audience! On Friday we will have STEM day where students will get to exercise their engineering skills. Students will use the process of asking, imagining, planning, creating, and improving to make a roller coaster that can get a ping pong ball from a starting point to an ending point! In math this week, I will be giving the students their addition and subtraction post-assessments which I know they will rock. They are armed with fantastic math strategies and tools and feel ready for it! In reading we will continue to work on becoming avid readers! The students will learn how to identify and talk about important parts of their books. We have been talking about comprehension and how important it is to understand what you are reading. This week we will really dive into going back and talking about those “wow” and “why?” parts of our book.
