Math: Addition- Using a Number line Strategy There will be an attachment in your email with blank number lines for extra practice that you can print out if you choose to do so. Please watch the “Addition Using a Number Line” instructional video. This will be an attachment in your email. Sign into SeeSaw using your Classlink login or QR code. Go to the activities tab and find the assignment below. Reading: When we read a fiction book, we can identify the characters in the book. Choose a picture book. Read the book or have someone read it to you. Then look at each picture and think, “What might the character be thinking or feeling?” ▪ Use a post it note or a piece of paper and make a speech bubble. ▪ Write inside the speech bubble what the character might be thinking or feeling. Phonics: On Seesaw, you will find an activity titled “SH Digraph Poem” Use the highlighter tool to highlight the words that begin with sh, then use the voice tool to read the poem to your teacher. On the next page, see how many words you can come up with that begin with ‘sh’ and end with ‘sh’. (ship, shock, shin, wish, fish, cash) Writing: We’re finishing up persuasive writing, so it’s time to show what you know. Pick a problem to write about over the next three days. Today, you will make a sign or poster to get people to help solve your problem. Science: Compare the two plants from the previous day. Talk about how they are the same and different (size, color, shape, numbers of petals etc.) Take a picture of the plants and record your comparison on seesaw. Science: Go on a nature walk around your neighborhood and search for 2 plants/flowers (you will need 2 for tomorrow.) Take a picture of one of the plants today and label its parts (roots, stem, leaves, and flower) and put it on seesaw. On the next page, draw and label a picture of your favorite food that has the ‘ch’ sound. Writing Watch the “Writing a How-To Make a Change” Video. Start a How-To Make a change book. Pick an important problem to write about. Give reasons to tell people why they should make a change, and then list the steps for making that change. Reading: Select a book from your home or library to read with a partner. Talk about the book with your partner using the questions below:
Phonics: Final Consonant Blends Watch the video below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-1rmuOxGE8&t=1s Using a sheet of paper or a whiteboard, have your student write the final consonant blend they hear at the end of the words in the See It. Write It. Interactive Powerpoint attached to your email. (they do not need to write the whole word, only the final blend) For example: if the image shows the word “insect” your child will write “ct”. This will be an attachment in your email. Students will draw a picture for each addend below the equation and count all the pictures to find the sum. This will be an attachment in your email. Reading: Authors write books. Illustrators draw the pictures for the books. These two people work together to help you understand a book. Choose a book to read or have someone read it to you. ▪ Who is the author? ▪ Who is the illustrator? ▪ Read (or have someone read the book to you). As you are reading, look at the pictures. ▪ Talk about what you see in the picture. ▪ Then, find one thing that you notice in the picture that was not stated in the book. ▪ Write this on a paper and post to Seesaw. Phonics: Complete the Phonics activity in Seesaw. Drag each picture to the correct digraph What is your favorite food? Write a sentence about it and give three reasons why it is so good. Math Measure and Compare - Length Pick 3 small items around your house (tv remote, crayon, envelope, etc). Find something to use to measure (pennies, paperclips, legos, etc.) and measure each item. Take a picture of how you measured, making sure to follow our measurement rules. Label the longest and shortest item. Math: Counting and Graphing Activity Have students complete the following activity. This will be an attachment in your email. When finished tallying and graphing, on a separate sheet of paper answer the following questions: 1.Which toy had the most? 2. Which toy had the least? 3 How many toys are there I total? 4. How many more bears are there than balls? Phonics: Review digraph “th” Watch the video at the link below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-cvlZLNEBM Have your child brainstorm words that have the “th” sound at the beginning (thick, thing, thin, etc.) and at the end (with, fifth, math, path, etc.) Reading: Select a fictional book to read from your house. As you read, stop at different parts of the text that make you think extra hard. Use the symbols in the chart to show how you are thinking/feeling in those parts of the book. Then share your thinking/feeling with a friend or family or post to SeeSaw. Writing In your opinion, which special is the best? Fill out the sheet that can be found in an attachment via email. Don’t forget to begin your writing with ,”In my opinion,” “I think,” or “I believe,” and give at least 3 reasons supporting your opinion. Please see the sample anchor chart to help you.
