On Thursday we had career day. The kids enjoyed sitting in the police car and sounding the police siren, relaxing in the Mercedes Benz stadium Limousine, and doing karate with Life Martial Arts Then today we had field day and participated in many fun events like the Greek Olympic torch relay (with a ball balancing on a plunger) and the Panama Canal water game (students fill a bucket with a wet sponge)
How lucky are we to have a science lab teacher that LOVES Star Wars so much! He was so passionate about the force today when teaching the kids about gravitational pull. Mr. John says magnets are the closest thing we have to using the force on this planet! In math we will continue In math we will continue our unit on addition and subtraction. We will be working on paying attention to the addition and subtraction signs and making sure students are adding and subtracting appropriately. We will also review combinations of 10 and missing addends. Students will continue to use the strategies they have learned to solve these problems: draw a picture, use objects, use fingers, ten frames, count on, etc. What you can do at home: assist students in becoming fluent in combinations of 10 and fluent in adding and subtracting within 5. Example: 0+10=10,1+9=10,2+8=10 all the way back to 8+2=10, 9+1=10, and 10+0=10. When they have mastered that, they can work on all the combinations to 20. You can also create flashcards with addition and subtraction problems for students to become fluent in solving. We will also continue to research Greece for International Day and practice our presentation. In Social Studies, we have been talking about goods and services and during this unit, students have been earning pretend money for market day which is our cumulative activity in which each kindergarten class will be making buying and selling different goods. On market day, students will get to spend their money they have earned on different items! May is a busy month here are some upcoming events: May 7th: All library books that haven't been returned should be returned. We are also going to the garden this day! May 9th: It's my birthday! May 11th: Field Day May 18th: International Day May 21st: End of Year Party May 22nd: Market Day May 24th: Last Day of School |
