How we incorporated Dr. Seuss week into our learning this week:
Math: In math we read the book How Big is a Foot? and Dr. Seuss's The Foot Book and talked about standard and non-standard units of measure. We used non-standard units of measure to measure our own foot and then we cut out the size of our foot and used it as a tool to measure things and people in the room! It was a great way to practice measuring with no gaps and no over laps. Writing: The students got to write an opinion piece about what Dr. Seuss book they like the most and why. They made sure their opinion was clearly stated and supported. On Wednesday the students got to make their own wacky writing for Wacky Wednesday with inspiration from the book. Reading: We read lots of Dr. Seuss books and talked about repetition and rhymes. We practiced reading fluently and reading with expression. We also worked on building our reading endurance with the amount of books we read! Science: In the science lab we discussed states of matter and made ooblek which can be both a liquid and a solid! We read Dr. Seuss's ABC and made our own ABC book with facts about animals A-Z that we researched about on Safari Montage and the Animal Kingdom database!
