In reading and writing we have been working on comparing and contrasting the adventures and experiences of characters in familiar stories. We did this by exploring gingerbread person stories. We read the original Gingerbread Man story, Gingerbread Man Loose in the School, The Gingerbread girl, The Gingerbread Pirates, The Gingerbread Cowboy, The Gingerbread Bear, and The Ninjabread Man. We compared and contrasted the characters in each book (who chases the gingerbread person), the tagline (“run run as fast as you can…”), and the ending (did the gingerbread person get tricked and eaten or did they survive). Then, students used their knowledge or sequencing events and their expertise on gingerbread stories to create their own gingerbread person stories. The students were creative when choosing their own characters, tagline, and ending to their story. When students were finished with their gingerbread stories they were able to practice reading their own writing and publish their work by sharing it with the class in the form of a puppet show! It was so fun to hear so many innovative stories, the students really used their imaginations to create gingerbread masterpieces! Holiday traditions project is due Wednesday December 18th
Friday the 20th students can wear pajamas
