Measure Mania began and we are loving it to infinity AND BEYOND! I even heard a kid say, "no fair we missed a day of measure mania for the snow day!" Which was music to my teacher ears! We pinned the parts on Mr. Potato head and used our non-standard measurement skills! The students measured the Potato heads using cubes and paper clips as non-standard units of measure remembering their measurement rules: (no gaps, no overlaps, the units of measure should be the same, etc.) The students will continue to practice this as well as recognizing the difference between height and length. The students also used non-standard units of measure to measure the distance between locations on a map, determining the distance from Andy's house, to the gas station, pizza planet, and Al's Toy Barn and comparing those lengths. In writing students have been talking about the elements of a narrative story and practiced the concept of beginning, middle, and end, character development, and sequencing by making their own puppets and script!
In reading we have been talking about amping up our reading super powers and making them extra stregth! We discussed and identified blends and practiced reading words by looking at the beginning and the end and even seeing if we could recognize a part of the word inside of a larger word! I am really seeing the students using these "powers" as they read independently, with partners, and with me! I could not be more proud of my little learners. If you have not emailed me about who your child's VIP (very important person) guest will be for Wednesday the 6th at 7:45am please do so! Thank you!
