It’s Pajama Day Friday~ Come dressed in your pajamas! We will we read all day (Mystery Readers included!) and do fun activities! I look forward to celebrating Dr. Seuss with you! The bond we have created with our Buddy Readers in Mrs. Child's class is incredible! We celebrated Valentines Day together and they even helped us write stories about our pet rocks! It was awesome because our fourth grade friends had extensive knowledge about rocks and were able to help them classify their rocks as igneous, metamorphic, or sedimentary! We learned that scientists live like writers by noticing all the details in the world around them. They write and draw pictures and labels. Writers/scientists write and draw all the small details like the small hole in a leaf just like we see them.
We observed rocks and considered their form (what is it like?) The students were able to write/draw/label and label the properties of their rocks using their sense. They discussed the rocks function: What are rocks used for? (homes, bridges, writing utensils, glasses, etc.) We even were able to use our rocks and further observe it's form during math using our knowledge of measurement! We measured our rocks length, height, and discovered it's weight using a balance scale.
