In math this week, we will continue our unit on continued counting. We will discuss that pennies are one cent each and practice using these in our ten frames instead of cubes or counters. We will continue breaking numbers down into tens and ones and discussing base 10. It’s important for students to know that our teen numbers have 1 group of 10 and there are some left over as well as how to write the decomposing number sentence/equation both ways (15=10+5 and 10+5=15). We have also talked about bigger numbers and will continue to work on identifying how many tens and ones there are in those numbers. We will also work on comparing sets of objects and numbers using the “alligator” sign. Students will learn that the alligator always eats the bigger number. We will also discuss how to read these number comparison sentences. Students will get to play a partner dice game and card game to work on comparing numbers.

We are starting a new math Unit on Wednesday called "counting with friends." Check out below to explore and get a sneak peek!
We will learn the number names and count sequence, how to count to tell the number of objects, and how to classify and count the number of objects in each category.
Attached are next weeks lesson plans! A couple things:
A message from Coach K- “Students will need the following items for PE next week. If there is anything they might not have, no problem at all we will work around it.
Next week 09/14-09/18 students will need a bath/beach towel, 3 pairs of rolled up socks, 1 container (such as laundry hamper, empty box, storage container, etc.),
Students who are in pods are not really able to engage in PE. Perhaps there is a way to create a small area for students to use during pe. They do not need a lot of space but some for sure.
PE is required, students do not have the option to sit and watch, even if they don't feel like it:)”
A message from me:
Tuesday, September 15th at 7:00pm will be our Virtual Curriculum Night for parents. This will be held on Microsoft Teams. I have attached the PowerPoint that I will be presenting so you can review it. This is not mandatory for you to attend. It is really just a refresher on some policies this year and an overview of what we will be learning. Many of these things were covered in our Virtual Open House meeting. But feel free to join us on Teams or email me if you have any specific questions about anything we are covering! If you can't make it, I will be sure to record the session so you can watch it later!

- We will be starting small group sessions for math and reading. Your child will be assigned to a math group and a reading group. Each group will have a designated day that I will be meeting with them. *Please note - your child's reading and math group may not be meeting on the same day. If it is not your day to meet in your small group on Teams, you will find your child's assignments on Seesaw like we have been doing this week. But, we will still be doing Morning Meeting for everyone each day! So the only live whole group teams meetings will be morning meeting every day and a whole group math and reading lesson on Fridays. Small groups will always take place at the same time according to our virtual schedule math groups will be at 8:30am (immediately after morning meeting) and reading will be at 10:00am.
- These reading and math small group sessions will be held on Microsoft Teams with one small change. But don't panic - I promise it will be self-explanatory once you see it in action 🙂 haha! When we meet for Morning Meetings and other whole group synchronous sessions we always meet on the "General" wall. On the left hand side of Microsoft Teams under Mrs. Adler's Awesome Allstars 2020-2021 you will see the 'General' tab and a 'Reading Group' and 'Math Group' tab. These are called channels. When we meet for small groups you will click on the channel for the correct subject. That channel will only be accessible for the students that are in that small group.
- I will be emailing you all about which reading and math group your child is in. In the weekly lesson plans you will also notice that I indicate what small group I am meeting with on that day.
